“My five kids and I were abandoned by my husband 10 years ago. My biggest concern has been how to raise them on little to no income. There are very few opportunities for me to earn wages where we live. Occasionally I make money by washing clothes for people, but I don’t always have a place to wash. I earn around two dollars for this service, which is enough to buy one meal. Sometimes people don’t pay me on time, or they refuse to pay at all.
I have really struggled to provide food and basic necessities for my family. Most of the time my children and I have had to live on an empty stomach.
The hardest time for us was when I had failed to raise money for rent, and we were evicted. With tears flowing down my face, I carried my kids and our few belongings down the street, wondering where we would go. Thankfully, I found an unfinished house with a roof – no windows or floors. We stayed there for a month.
I’m really grateful to God for Project Matthew’s help. They’ve provided us with meals when we most needed it. My kids and I are very happy. I’ve even started dreaming about opening a grocery shop in order to support my family in the future.”
