Emergency Food Supply: 50 Families + Amari Uganda

Over the last several months, COVID-19 has swept across the globe, wreaking havoc on nations both wealthy and poor alike. Uganda was no exception, and has been hit particularly hard as the majority of the population lives hand to mouth. As the country went into lockdown in March, many vulnerable families were in danger of starvation within just the first week.

Mary’s Story

“My five kids and I were abandoned by my husband 10 years ago. My biggest concern has been how to raise them on little to no income. There are very few opportunities for me to earn wages where we live. Occasionally I make money by washing clothes for people, but I don’t always have a place to wash. I earn around two dollars for this service, which is enough to buy one meal. Sometimes people don’t pay me on time, or they refuse to pay at all…”


Esther’s Story

“My husband died four years ago due to HIV/AIDS, leaving me with three children. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to work due to complications with my health. It was a horrible moment to gaze at my starving kids knowing I couldn’t do anything to help them. Praise God, we’ve been able to receive some food rations from Project Matthew. My family and I are so grateful!”
